What is Online Movie Downloading and Viewing?

Are you wondering, “what exactly is online movie viewing”?  I am sure that thought has crossed your mind.  Is it something you should look for in an online movie provider or not?

Here are some things you might want to know and consider when choosing your movie provider.

Some online movie rental service company's have a new feature that allows customers to watch movies and television series on their personal computer. These companies will continue to offer DVD's by mail to customers for a fixed monthly fee but they will have the additional option of instantly watching about 1,000 movies and television series on their PCs at no additional cost.  The most popular company to download movies through the internet is Netflix, check it out Here.  When I first saw this feature, I thought “I don’t need that service” but I had teenagers to consider and quickly found out that they were already downloading movies on their telephones and that was costing me!

Customers using the service will have to perform a one-time installation of a browser applet that will take less than a minute. Then most subscribers' movie selections will begin playing in their Web browser in as little as 10 to 15 seconds after loading.

Netflix is the main company providing this new service today and it only works on Microsoft Internet Explorer right now.  Internet connectivity with a minimum of one megabit per second of bandwidth is required. Faster connections are needed for better quality playback of the programming, with DVD quality possible with a three-megabit-per-second connection.

"For those of you over 30, maybe you won't get into it but in the next 5 years it will be a mainstream feature and your children will want it."

The service is based on the number of online viewing hours on a customer's plan.  For example with Netflix, a client with the entry-level $5.99 a month plan will be able to watch movies online for six hours a month, while those with the full $17.99 a month plan that allows them to rent three DVD's at a time will be able to watch 18 hours a month online.

The company said most of the major and many independent studios are supporting the introduction of the new feature, including General Electric unit NBC Universal, Sony Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer .

You decide if it is a feature you want included (remember it is free) with your package.  Staying current with your technology is an important, so perhaps you should have your children teach you how to use it!
